Cleaning Leather
Leather is a very strong material that with care can last a long time. Be it shoes, jackets, or a leather couch, sometimes the material is going to take a beating.
Removing salt from leather
In some areas salt is applied to roads. The salt can then get on your leather shoes or jacket. To remove salt from leather, use half water, and half salt. Dip the rag in the solution, and blot it on the leather. When completed the material should be flawless.
Standard spot removal
One part lemon juice and one part cream of tarter. You should end up with a paste like substance. Buff the paste on the spot. If needed, you can let the paste sit for a few hours. The lemon juice's acidity should work out the stain.
Super glue removal
Take a moist towel and put it over the super glue spot in question. Put a pre-heated iron over the spot, and move it around. Be careful not to keep the iron in the same place for long. Eventually it should start to melt off the super glue. It won't work the first try, and will most likely take repeated attempts. Acetone is also known to get off super glue; however it's not recommended that you directly apply it to the leather.
Spot removal
You can remove water marks and other simple marks with a water and soap solution. Again, don't apply the water or soap directly to the surface. Dip a rag in the bucket and apply to the leather as needed. Another solution for removing those tough spots is alcohol. Use a piece of cotton to apply to the surface, and rub in gently. This can work on crayon, ink, and other stubborn stains.
Prevention
Leather shouldn't be kept in direct sun light. Doing so might fade the color of the leather, and it will not retain the same texture as it was when new. This also goes with drying your freshly washed leather. Sunlight is the absolute worst way to dry it. Another good way to keep the leather's shine and feel is to regularly wash it. You can use a micro-fiber cloth to dust the leather before cleaning. These rags are generally used to dry cars and can be found at an automotive store. A good type of soap that can be used is saddle soap.
Tips
Before trying new methods on your piece of leather, always read the manufactures instructions. If you're not sure, you can always give them a call. Another thing you can do if you're not sure is test it on an unseen part of the leather. That way if the treatment does happen to make the stain worse, it's on a part that will never be seen. I would recommend this for any type of cleaning you're doing.
